2019 Resource Family Conference
It's time for the 17th Annual Resource Family and Social Worker Conference! Every year, we offer a conference free of charge to bring together resource parents,
kinship caregivers and IDHW staff. This time is used to enhance the lives of our children in foster care by providing training opportunities
while building support for everyone involved in that system while earning CEU's.
These conferences are made possible through the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare and Eastern Washington University: Family Resource and Training
Center who are dedicated to improving the lives of children in our communities and to work with and train resource parents in Idaho.
This year our keynote speaker will be Rick Griffin from the Community Resilience Initiative. Rick Griffin is currently the Executive Director and a founding member of Jubilee Leadership Academy, a trauma-informed boarding school committed to working with struggling teens. As one of three Master Trainers for Community Resilience Initiative, Mr. Griffin speaks to thousands of groups from all over the country and is widely recognized for his work in trauma-informed care. Whether he is working with educators, health care professionals, or law enforcement, he is dedicated to helping professionals reach youth and support the families in their community!
The keynote presentation will be about building resiliency not only for your foster kiddos but for you as well! We will learn how to "Avoid the Wipe Out." Presentation Description: "Riding the wave of foster care is likely to make even the most seasoned professional a little seasick. The impact of developmental trauma, neglect, attachment disruptions, and related childhood adversity on a child can be overwhelming. This course is to help foster parents and social workers to better understand the effects of trauma on an individual's brain, emotions, and behavior and the healing power of resilience building. This approach is designed to empower those working within the child welfare system with a common lanuage and common strategies to navigate the turbulent waters together."
Space is limited to 150 people per location and priority will be given to resource families. Community Partners will be put on a waiting list and registration will be confirmed 10 days prior to the conference start if space is available.

To find out if your family qualifies for assistance, please read below for more information, prior to registering.
Resource Families Agree to:
- To attend both days of the resource parent conference to receive lodging.
- Lodging-During the online conference registration, the Resource Family agrees to select “yes.” Resource Family must reside more than 75 miles one way from the conference location. Lodging will be booked by EWU at a designated hotel. Families will not be reimbursed if they book their own room at a hotel.
- Travel Assistance-During the online conference registration, the Resource Family agrees, to select “yes” on the mileage assistance on the registration form, if their residence is more than 45 miles one way from the conference.
- Childcare-During the online conference registration, the Resource Family agrees to select “yes” on the childcare assistance on the registration form. All children, including non-foster children, in the household are eligible at a rate of $15/day up to 6 children.
- If childcare assistance is requested, the Resource Family must indicate the number of children in the household (up to 6 children) on the registration form in order to receive the reimbursement.
- To sign an invoice with legal name and complete a W-9 at the conference.
- Travel and/or childcare assistance eligibility is based on one per household.
- The Resource Family will be responsible for any other incidental room charges such as movies, meals, telephone calls, etc. so a credit card is required at time of check-in.
- The Center is not providing any direct travel services to or from the conference.
- The Resource Family will allow six to eight weeks for reimbursement after an Invoice is submitted.
